Beyond Speaking and Listening: Transforming our Habits of Communication by Deepening Self-Understanding and Connection

Human communication is complex. Skillful communication is really hard. Few things are so powerful and yet so commonplace.

There are many factors in any interaction, including our emotions, ideas and beliefs that come into play both verbally and nonverbally.  We all have habitual patterns of relating that have been established over a lifetime and are consistently reinforced by messages from our culture and environment.  However, there are also certain consistent foundations to skillful communication.

To create effective dialogue, we need to show up and be fully in the moment, have a clear and conscious intention, and focus on what matters by honing our attention to discern what is essential both to ourselves and to others.  In this reward-eligible webinar you will be introduced to principles and tools that will help you begin to consider ways to retrain your practice of communication.

Learning Objectives

  1. Review the nature of human communication and its central role in our lives.
  2. Learn tools for cultivating awareness in ourselves and in conversation with others.
  3. Consider some of our habitual ways of relating to conflict, the shortcomings, and limitations of this conditioning, and ways that we can realign our intentions to have more effective and meaningful conversations.
  4. Understand the importance of where we put our attention in conversations, and ways to train where we put our attention to help focus on what matters.
