Transportation Resources

Ride sharing can offer an alternative way to get to work while saving you money and time, and reducing impact to the environment. UVA Parking & Transportation offers a calculator to help you understand how much money you are spending on your commute, and provides examples of how much UVA employees could save by switching to a ridesharing method

  • Carpools

    UVA Cavpool

If you find at least one other UVA employee to ride to work with, you can registering your carpool with the UVA CAVPOOL program, which qualifies you for discounted parking permits, free occasional parker permits, and even a dedicated space in a parking lot depending on the amount of riders in a program.

    Rideshare

If you cannot find a UVA employee to ride with, you can look for others to ride with by registering with the Community Rideshare program. The organization offers free carpool matching, vanpool coordination, and operates a Guaranteed Ride Home program to provide free rides home in an emergency.

RideShare provides free commuter matching to anyone who lives, works, or attends school in Central Virginia. If you are looking to form or join a carpool or vanpool, start by creating a profile in their online system.

  • Vanpools

    Vanpools

Vanpools are similar to carpools, with the added benefit of splitting the cost of a rental van. The lease, parking, fuel, insurance and maintenance are all included in the monthly cost. Generally vanpools are for employees with a 35 mile or greater commute. Vanpools require at least 5 participants, and can accommodate as many as 15. Currently there are two vanpools that travel from Richmond to UVA.
