FEAP: A Legacy of Support and Growth
What began more than 25 years ago as a small initiative within UVA Health has grown into a comprehensive support system for employees, faculty, and the broader Charlottesville community. The Faculty and Employee Assistance Program (FEAP) started with just one part-time Licensed Clinical Social Worker, dedicated to helping employees navigate personal and workplace challenges. Originally focused on the medical center, the program soon expanded to include faculty and staff across the University, leading to the name FEAP—a reflection of its commitment to serving the entire UVA workforce.
Over the years, FEAP has grown exponentially, now serving UVA employees, their families, and more than 35 organizations in the Charlottesville community. With a mission to enhance well-being and workplace productivity, FEAP provides expert guidance on mental health, substance use, financial concerns, parenting, relationships, legal matters, caregiving, and other work-life challenges.
What sets FEAP apart is its team of highly skilled professionals. Our consultants hold a master’s degree or above in mental health or a related field. Many hold a license in counseling, social work or marriage & family therapy. Consultants are expected to obtain the Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP) credential. Specialists in Work-Life Balance, Eldercare, Mindfulness, Coaching, Parenting, Couples Counseling, and Positive Psychology bring a depth of expertise to support employees through life’s complexities.
Our groundbreaking initiatives address primary and vicarious trauma, EAP group interventions, and Rest, Reset, Restore strategies (R3)—ensuring that UVA employees and the wider community have access to the highest level of care and support.
From a single provider to a trusted, far-reaching resource, FEAP continues to grow, evolve, and support those who make UVA and the Charlottesville community thrive.
