Persistent, often self-critical thoughts can undermine our confidence and well-being. This webinar focuses on understanding and addressing that negative mind chatter. Participants will explore the psychological mechanisms behind negative self-talk, learn practical strategies to manage and reframe these thoughts to align with our goals, and develop healthier mental habits. By the end of the session, attendees will have a toolkit of effective techniques to foster a more positive inner dialogue.

Learning Objectives

  1. Define negative mind chatter and its impact on our mental well-being.
  2. Recognize triggers that initiate negative thoughts, and understand the contexts and situations that exacerbate them.
  3. Learn positive tools and practical strategies to challenge and reframe negative thoughts.
  4. Practice real-time techniques and develop strategies to address negative mind chatter as it arises.

About Your Presenter

Mary Sherman, LCSW, CEAP is a FEAP Consultant with UVA's Faculty and Employee Assistance Program. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Virginia and a Certified Employee Assistance Professional. Ms. Sherman has extensive experience with coaching, short-term problem solving, management consultation, mediation, and facilitation on a range of personal and workplace issues. She has additional expertise helping employees improve communication skills, balance work and home, manage stress, increase happiness, in domestic violence work, and in helping employees deal with anxiety and depression. Member of the Employee Assistance Professionals Association and the College and University Work Family Association.
