The Charlottesville Free Clinic may be able to assist you if you or a family member need medical care, but you don’t have health insurance and you don’t qualify for free health care elsewhere.

The Charlottesville Free Clinic provides free primary care for adults by appointment only for: 

• Treatment for minor illnesses like bronchitis, sinus infections, influenza and urinary tract infections
• Ongoing care for chronic illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, allergies, thyroid disorders and high cholesterol
• Gynecological exams, Pap tests, breast exams, mammograms and some birth control for female patients
• Flu shots, physicals, screenings for cancer and diagnostic tests for chronic illnesses
• Mental health concerns and limited services like medication help and short-term therapy
• Basic lab and radiology services

Additionally, the Charlottesville Free Clinic offers:

• Free medications prescribed and filled on-site
• Referrals to medical specialists at low-cost
• Limited pediatric care

Eligibility

You are most likely eligible if you: 

• Are between the ages of 18 and 64 (as a CFC patient, your children may be eligible for some pediatric services). 
• Not eligible for free care elsewhere. 
• Not covered by Medicaid, Medicare or employer-sponsored private health insurance. 
• The out-of-pocket costs of insurance available to you represent 10% or more of your income. 
• Have an annual household income is above 100% and below 400% of the Federal Poverty Level or you have assets that make you ineligible for free care elsewhere.

About

The Charlottesville Free Clinic (CFC) believes that everyone should have access to quality dental care and that no one should suffer needlessly when experiencing dental pain.

CFC dental staff and volunteers provide:

• Fillings (restorations)
• Extractions
• Exams with X-rays
• Hygiene Care (cleanings)

Anyone can come to our walk-in clinics on Monday and Wednesdays from 8 am - 12:30 pm. Appointments may only be made after coming to a walk-in clinic. You must bring a photo ID and proof of income. 

Clinic Hours

• Monday: Walk-in Clinic 7:30 am -12:00 pm or until full (first come, first served – come early)
• Tuesday: Treatment for active patients 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
• Wednesday: Walk-in Clinic 7:30 am - 12:00 pm or until full (first come, first served – come early)
• Thursday: Closed
• Friday: Treatment for active patients with VCU Dental Students 8:00 am - 2:00 pm

Eligibility

The CFC Pharmacy provides free medications prescribed by a CFC provider or a CFC-affiliated medical practice. In order to qualify for free medications from the CFC Pharmacy you must:

• Be a current CFC patient
• Have current income verification on file

The Community Dental Center is a non-profit full service pediatric dental center that always accepts new patients with Medicaid (FAMIS).  We also serve adults with Medicaid that are having emergencies, as well as women on the Medicaid Pregnancy Program.

The Virginia Department of Health provides family planning, immunizations, and free child safety seats through county offices.

Family Planning: Individuals can access family planning services, including contraception (birth control), on a sliding scale. All clinics offer a wide variety of methods, and staff members have been trained to work with patients to find the method that works best for them. Title X clinics are located across the state and serve all people regardless of income, race, ethnicity, immigration status, ability status, sex, or gender identity. No one will be turned away for inability to pay.

Immunizations: Nurses give immunizations to protect against vaccine-preventable diseases.

• For: Infants, children, adolescents, and adults. Please bring a copy of your immunization record if available.
• Fees: Required childhood immunizations are provided at no charge. All other vaccines have a charge.

Child Safety Seat Program: Free car seats are available to families who qualify. Parents attend a short class to learn the correct placement and use of the car seat. 

To apply, applicants must:

• Be eligible for Medicaid or FAMIS or qualify by income
• Be legal residents of Virginia
• Be women in the last three months of pregnancy or a parent, legal guardian, or foster parent
• Complete the application below and return to the local health department.

The Pregnancy Centers of Central Virginia (PCCV) is a Christian non-profit dedicated to women & families facing unplanned pregnancy in the Charlottesville, Albemarle, Culpeper, Orange, Greene, Madison, Buckingham, Louisa, Fluvanna, and Rappahannock communities. 

PCCV is a life-affirming Christian ministry committed to: Hope for women, men, and their families facing issues of unintended pregnancy. Help through free and confidential counseling, education, and medical services. 

Programs offer a safe and confidential environment for women to receive counseling, information, and services. Appointments are encouraged but walk-ins are welcome at all four of our Center locations. There is no charge for any of our services.

Counseling Alliance of Virginia (CAVA) serves and cares for individuals, couples, and families impacted by mental illness, substance abuse, trauma, foster care, and/or other life stressors.

ARC of the Piedmont works to ensure full community inclusion and participation of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through the provision of services and advocacy. Services include:

Charlottesville, Nelson, and Louisa Day Support Programs
Assists adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to be more independent, learn new things, visit new places, and make new friends. This program provides individualized training in daily living skills, socialization, pre-vocational skills, and communication.

In Home Services
In-Home services are provided to adults and children throughout the Region 10 planning district. The program provides individual staff to work one-on-one to implement the goals in an individual’s service plan.
