Nourishing Restorative Sleep

Consistently healthy sleep is linked to many well-being markers from willpower and emotional regulation to overall physical health. Insufficient sleep is associated with an increased risk for diabetes, cardiovascular disease, stroke, obesity, and depression and contributes to motor vehicle crashes and machinery-related injuries. Currently, more than 1/3 of Americans report insufficient sleep.
Part of the monthly series of emotional well-being webinars offered by UVA FEAP and Hoos Well, this webinar will include information sharing as well as a guided exercise designed to promote deep relaxation, systematically and organically, and ultimately healthy sleep. For an optimal experience we invite you to try the guided exercise while laying down either during the live webinar or afterward when it is available on demand. It is also possible to practice the guided exercise in a comfortable seated position.
After this webinar, participants will have a better understanding of the following:
- The most common barriers to healthy sleep
- Sleep hygiene
- A self-assessment sleep checklist
- The 'rest and digest' branch of the autonomic nervous system
- Steps to prepare the mind and body for rest, systematically and organically
- Resources available and where to go for more information
There are two opportunities to attend:
- Tues. March 9, 12-1pm: Virtual Seminar (this will be a Zoom meeting, with more opportunities for interaction.)
- Weds. March 24, 3:30–4:30pm: Webinar (this will be a traditional Zoom webinar.)
About the Presenter
Anna DeLong currently works for UVA FEAP and has an honorary appointment in the UVA School of Nursing. Prior to joining the FEAP team Anna worked for the UVA Medical Center in a leadership role as well as had more than ten years in private practice. Anna has accumulated 30 years of experience in her various roles as a consultant, trainer, and psychotherapist.
A voracious student of neuropsychology, Anna stays on top of evidence-based strategies to promote wellness, healthy relationships and living with ease. She is passionate about sharing this empowering information with others and has developed workshops and programs on various-wellness related topics. Anna is described as an amazing trainer who paves a path that is understandable, accessible, empowering, and even entertaining along the way.
